The Gold Bezant
Here's a picture of the longest lasting, most successful gold coin in the history of the world. For those of you who don't know, the Byzantine empire had a very strong and accountable monetary system. Their gold coin, the Bezant, was trusted and circulated all over the known world back then. The Bezant was used for over 600 years with no devaluation or debasement. It was trusted by kings and barbarians alike, and everyone who held one in their hands had no worries about the value of what they had.

Re: The Gold Bezant
Just like thalers, used for hundreds of years without devaluation. Shows you the difference between fiat and real money.
PS: I see the picture. I'd like to have one of those. |
Re: The Gold Bezant
I never heard of it. Is there someplace we might run into such an offer? What is the gold content? How can we tell if it is genuine? I mostly ignore offers of ancient coins.

Re: The Gold Bezant
Through my person I demand the right to an honest currency.
As a sovereign, I think I am entitled to a monetary policy that will last centuries, not decades. |
